Modifying a pre-existing Anterior Bite Plane
with an NTI-type Discluding Element
An Anterior Bite Plane is significantly different than an Anterior Bite Stop in that the ABP provides an occlusding platform for the lower canine teeth.  Canine occluding can allow for near-maximal clenching intensity.  In the example case below, the patient presented with a long history of headahes and TMJ problems.

Wear facets make by the canines.

The lower canines and incisors contact the ABP

In excursive movments, the ABP can allow for posterior and canine clenching.

Protrusive movement can allow for continued posterior clenching.

A Discluding Element was adapted to the ABP.

An extreme excursive movement may allow for a lower canine to occlude on the DE.
In this example, the patient's headaches and jaw signs and symptoms resolved.  However, if joint symptoms had persisted, an lower NTI-type device would have been suggested, thereby preventing the canine occluding. An example of another case
