Rules of Control of Parafunction
I. Minimize muscle contraction intensity
A) Provide for incisor edge contact only; Prevent canine and molar contact
1. Opposing incisors can both be covered in plastic.
2. Canine(s) can be covered in plastic, but cannot contact opposing plastic or teeth.
II. Optimize condylar orientation during occluding events
A) Minimize rotation of condyle by minimizing the vertical dimension of occluding in all excursions
1. VDO can be increased as therapeutically indicated only for Primary Clenching.
